PSC Metals is a regional scrap dealer with facilities in AL, AR, GA, IL, KY, IN, MO, OH, PA, TN; an Icahn Enterprises LP (IELP) company.

Managed the following functions:

  • Windows, Linux, SAN, VMWare administration
  • WAN/LAN network administration
  • PC support administration
  • DBA (MS SQL Server as well as MySQL)

  • Maintained a customer focus, with primary bottom line vision
  • Moved data center to tier 4 facility with up-time exceeding 99.99%
  • Wrote Sarbanes-Oxley compliant IT procedurs as part of the IT management team
  • Never failed SOx audit as IT operations and security interface
  • Architected, project managed the installation of and supported the WAN/VPN to 60 sites (Cisco equipment); decreased MTR from over 4 hours to under 1 hour

Officemax was the third largest office supply retail chain in the country.

  • Managed the engineers who supported the high-volume ecommerce website and successfully transitioned it to a Level 3 facility
  • Reorganized and staffed 24×7 support of Unix (Sun, HP, and Unisys servers) as well as Tandem for credit card processing
  • Successfully implemented infrastructure to support new distribution centers in Nevada and Pennsylvania
  • Installed (hands on) load balancing and redundant SAN (EMC Symetrix) supporting Oracle and Informix databases
  • Reduced Oracle database backups from 23 hours to effectively less than minutes by configuring and implementing EMC Business Continuation Volumes

The company was a US and local government contractor for environmental mitigation.

  • Managed all of the corporation’s information systems
  • Partnered with the business and installed five Novell networks in headquarters and branch offices for ease of financial reporting and consolidation
  • Worked with the financial department and successfully implemented Deltek accounting software (GL, AP, AR, Job Cost, Payroll, Purchasing, FA modules)
  • Installed six new telephone systems and integrated them over a leased-line WAN

Sverdrup had a contract to support the IT, engineering and research functions at Lewis Research Center. Other titles I had during my tenure were Supervisor, Distributed Information Systems; Supervisor, Microcomputer Applications; Supervisor, Systems and Networking

  • Personally designed, architected, wrote and implemented a contract project reporting database system based on WBS with imports of labor and financial reporting still in use today by NASA contractors
  • Wrote a GL and labor reporting system interfacing project reporting to run the business and to interface to the project reporting system which I also wrote
  • Supported EEO project, outreach to “Traditional Black Universities”
  • Managed group of database programmers who wrote the first agency-wide on-line travel system
  • Managed the personnel supporting NASA financial accounting
  • Personally converted the Wage and Salary Survey system from Univac to run on IBM MVS OS on an Amdahl super computer; received commendation letter for this effort
  • Supported engineering development of nuclear power for deep space probes for which I received a commendation letter
  • Wrote a cryogenic test cell maintenance database to track ALL parts by serial number, manufacturer, date deployed, scheduled replacement and other data
